A nine-part analysis – by Michael Hollister * April 2026

The Prepared War
Wars do not announce themselves. They do not emerge from nothing – they are prepared. Treaties are terminated, budgets restructured, infrastructure upgraded, legal thresholds lowered, institutions rebuilt. Viewed individually, these steps look like administrative acts. Viewed together, they reveal a pattern.
This series describes that pattern. Nine parts, nine perspectives – from Germany’s war economy to EU military architecture to the logic of global escalation. Each part stands on its own and delivers a self-contained picture.
But only those who have read the first seven parts will fully understand what Part 8 is really saying.
And only those who have understood Part 8 will grasp where Part 9 leads.
The principle is that of a mosaic. The individual pieces are recognizable – the image only emerges when you step back and see the whole.
A note on reading order: Parts 1 through 7 can be read in any sequence. They must be read before Part 8 can unfold its full effect. Part 9 presupposes the complete picture assembled in Part 8. Those who skip directly to Part 8 or 9 will read a good article. Those who read the series in its own logic will understand why the situation is what it is – and what might come next.
This page serves as a table of contents. It will be updated with each new publication. For anyone who wants to refresh their memory before Part 8 – the teasers are below. That is not required reading, but it is an investment that pays off when you get to Part 8.
Part 1 – Rearmament in Decline – published October 21, 2025
While Germany’s economy collapses, its productive capacity is quietly being redirected toward war output. Tanks, ammunition, and military budgets have long since replaced the classic drivers of growth – rearmament is becoming a state-sanctioned economic stimulus program. This article shows that what is happening is not about defense, but about the deliberate entry into a war economy that only functions as long as conflicts remain real.
Part 2 – State of Tension 2026 – published November 16, 2025
In the spring of 2025, Volkswagen held a strictly confidential meeting with its top dealers in Frankfurt am Main. Security measures were extreme: an absolute ban on mobile phones, no notes permitted, checks at the entrance. The central message was unambiguous: 2025 will be difficult – but from 2026 onward, Germany will be converted to a war economy. The state is planning to declare a Spannungsfall – a formal state of heightened tension.
Part 3 – EDIP – published November 16, 2025
While civilian industries collapse and social budgets are cut, Europe is undergoing a massive military transformation. The EU’s €150 billion EDIP program is not merely about defense – it is the blueprint for converting Europe’s economy to permanent war production.
Part 4 – The Overlooked Alliance Clause – published November 30, 2025
Ukrainian EU membership appears to be an act of solidarity – but it contains an escalation mechanism that has barely been discussed. Through Article 42(7) of the EU Treaty, Europe could slide into direct conflict with Russia without parliamentary debate, without democratic legitimacy, driven solely by legal mechanisms that already exist.
